The Secret Of My Podcast Interviews

NOV 11 WRITTEN BY ROBERT MILLER

I started the “Follow Your Dream” podcast in March 2021 during the depths of the pandemic. It was a time when musicians like myself couldn’t rehearse, record or perform live, so I needed a new creative outlet. I was unfamiliar with podcasts but it seemed to me that a podcast, as a longer form platform, could maybe facilitate a deeper level of engagement with the audience than social media. And that’s turned out to be the case.

I wanted to accomplish two goals with my podcast - first, inspire and motivate listeners to follow and succeed at their dream, whatever it is, just as I followed my youthful music dream later in life and succeeded. And second, to introduce my music to a much broader, global audience. I’m pleased to say that I’ve accomplished both goals.

The podcast currently is ranked in the top 1% of all podcasts, with listeners in 200 countries. I hear from listeners all the time, many commenting how the podcast has inspired them in their life, and many saying how much they enjoy my music which I infuse throughout the podcast.

To date I’ve aired about 125 episodes. Among my many guests I’ve interviewed a number of famous musicians. Many of them were my heroes as I was growing up and coming of age musically. But I’ve found that I can talk with them now not as heroes but as peers. The conversations flow easily. I don’t prepare detailed questions but instead let the conversations go where they will. This maintains a spontaneity that I like. I want to let the audience see them as people, not as stars, and hear their stories. It’s like allowing the audience to eavesdrop on two old friends talking.

So please eavesdrop on us in the next episode.
