Baseball and Life: New York Yankees

OCT 26 WRITTEN BY ROBERT MILLER

The NY Yankees lost in a series to the Houston Astros. They didn’t just lose. They were swept away in 4 games, a painful way to lose.

While this was challenging to watch, I don't think that the Yankees should clean house and get rid of their manager, their general manager and their players as many are advocating.

My love for the Yankees goes back to my youth in the 50s and 60s. They had stellar players back then like Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, Roger Maris and my boyhood hero Mickey Mantle. The Yankees became part of my DNA.

So why did the Yankees lose this year? Simple. The Astros were a better team. No, not just better...much better. Their pitching staff was superb and superior.

So the question is - what do you do in life when things don’t go your way? Do you throw out the baby with the bath water? Some times I guess. But the better answer is not the reflex response to get rid of everyone. It’s a more thoughtful and nuanced approach. What happened? Where do we need to improve? What else can we do?

And remember. Baseball is just a game. It’s entertainment and the players get paid outrageous amounts as entertainers. So don’t take this stuff too seriously.

Instead why don’t you listen to a few of my podcast episodes and my great guests and chill out.
